Termites are a Homeowner’s Worst Enemy

25 Jan, 2016 / by admin

Spartanburg Termite InspectionTermites are present and active during all four seasons and considered a homeowner’s worst enemy. They enjoy making their home in wood and are often referred to a the “silent destroyer” since they aren’t immediately noticed by the damage they cause.

Termites are very small in size, measuring approximately 1 cm in length but don’t let their size fool you. The termite’s mouth rips pieces of wood material causing concern and damage in your homes foundation and possibly furniture.

What can you do to prevent termite infestation?

  • Maintain a clean crawl space or foundation and remove lumber and firewood.
  • Confirm that wood on your home doesn’t reach the soil.
  • Keep gutters and downspouts clean and free of debris.
  • Place screens on vents and keep open.
  • Repair leaking faucets and water pipes which removes their water source.

Signs of Termites

  • Cracked or bubbling paint.
  • Mud tubes on wooden beams, walls or in crawl spaces.
  • Winged insects swarming in or around your home.
  • Wood that sounds hollow when tapping it.
